We are back and have hit the ground running.

Over my longer than expected trip I managed to clock up over 12,000km; consumed 3.5GB of Data from the Road and visiting 9 clients in most states around Australia.

Thank you to everyone who support me whilst I was away; and a special thanks to the Schools that we look after for the nightly updates so that we could get their MYOB Retail Manager Student lists ready for the 2010 school year.

They guys at the shop have done a wonderfully job of keeping the place together and we are now back ready to dive into 2010 with a lot of new ideas and some new opportunities.

We naturally have one of the Terrorbyte wireless internet USB modems that have worked fantastically all over the country where we have needed it;

The issue that we do have however is that with 3 laptops with us; the USB modem will only work with one computer at a time; and this is not an acceptable solution (and nor is using 3 modems with 3 bills to pay)

So the tool that I have been using is a program called connectify.me and it has just come out of beta testing into version 1.0 (I have used both). What this program does is enable you to share your internet connection by essentially setting your computer up as a wireless access point (similar to your home router)

Once running any device that can connect wirelessly can then connect through the computers wireless access point.

So in my case it has worked flawlessly for the past 3 weeks enabling the other 2 laptops and my phone connect through my USB Wireless modem and out onto the internet.

You can download it from http://www.connectify.me

Now this program only runs under Windows 7; and there are some issues with some wireless network cards; and I just hit one of them.

We have just arrived in a rather remote outback town that doesn't have coverage for the USB Wireless Modem; but not to worry the motel has wireless internet for us to use. However at $45 for the 3 computers for internet access for two hours we quickly realise how "remote" the place is.

No worries; connectify to the rescue again; however I quickly find out that I'm unable to use my wireless card for both sharing and connecting to the other access point at the same time. A quick check shows that my network card is meant to be able to do this as long as it's running the latest Intel 13.0.0.107 drivers which it was.

Exploring around a bit further found that the Connectify team were having issues in the final build with my Network card; and suggested trying the 64 bit drivers; which again I did but to no avail.

So then I discovered the manual way to do this in Windows 7 without using connectify. I only recommend this approach if you are indeed stuck like I am. Connectify is a good free program; and hopefully shortly they will fix the issue with my Intel Wireless Networking card.

So first off you need to open a command prompt with administrative privileges.

Then type in:

netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=Hotspot key=password

and

netsh wlan start hostednetwork

You can substitute the Hotspot name and Password to something more unique and harder to guess.

Then if you look in your Network Control panel you will find 2 wireless connections. One is your main one and the second is the virtual one you have just created.

On the one you use to connect to the wireless internet right click on it; select sharing and enable it on the second wireless connection.

That's it!, from your other machines you can then connect to your virtual wireless access point as normal and share that expensive hotel internet that you have just purchased.

If your not aware of it; myself and may of my friends and family all play World Of Warcraft; the worlds largest online heavily addictive mmorpg computer game.

I have been playing it over the past 4 years and last night I hit a rather large milestone - Level 80.

This is currently the highest level you can reach (until the new expac comes out next year); and whilst there are many races to see who can get from level 1 to level 80 the fastest; I think that I can claim the record for the slowest run to the end.

This is the first time that I have been maxed leveled. When I was level 57; out came the first expansion pack the burning crusade (Changing the Max Level from 60 to 70); and then when Wrath of the Litch King was released I was only level 69 and the level cap again got raised from 70 to 80.

So this time at least Im ready for the next one.

Now my total played time over the 4 years is a very scary 58 Days and 13 Hours. Although in my defence there are a lot of hours where I had just left the computer logged in. (I think the record for 1-80 is somewhere around the 7 day or 168 hour mark)

Now to other players out there; its not that I have been standing around twiddling my thumbs. I have completed the Loremaster of Eastern Kingdoms & Outlands Achievement; (and only about 100 away from the Kalimdor one).

But now I am level 80 and I have only completed the 2 Starting Zones of Northerend, leaving another 6 zones of content yet to discover. So I still have another 12 months to complete those areas before then next expansion.

If interested you can view my progress here in the Armory

And if your interested in starting to play World of Warcraft; even as a social player such as myself; please come instore where we can give you an demonstration, training and even install it on your computer and sign you up to play.

We stock:

World of Warcraft - Original Game Level 1-60
The Burning Crusade - First Expansion Level 60-70
Wrath of the Litch King - Second Expantion Level 70-80
World of Warcraft 60 Day Time Cards - Game Time Required to Play

We have some special bundled deals of the games, and install and get you all setup so that its easy to play (Installing and Patching from the DVD's will take you about 6 Hours)

So yes I "could" have had 8 Level 80 Characters by now; however geting there for me has been the enjoyment that I have got from the game.

Terrorbyte.com.au Christmas Catalogue

2009 Christmas CatalogueWe have just completed our Christmas Catalogue and you should be receiving it your mail box over the coming days. We haven't sold a single computer running Windows XP or Vista as users jump to the new standard.

This week just gone however Microsoft held the Partner Development Confrence (PDC) where the Windows chief Steven Sinofsky provided some impressive information regarding the beta testing process.

Windows 7 was the most tested software program in the world ever.

To Quote:

The company received over 1.7 million "Send Feedback" clicks, recorded over 91,000 unique external devices connected to pre-release Windows 7 PCs (14,000 of which were unique printers), saw over 883,000 unique applications installed on the OS, and had 8.1 million official installs of pre-release versions of Windows 7.

So that part of the hard work that Microsoft went through to get them most polished version of windows yet.

Who knew that there were over 14,000 different types of printers world wide; or 91,000 different devices that can be connected to a PC?- Lots of Cameras, MP3 Players, USB Memory Keys etc.

When it comes down to it its amazing that it all actually works.

Its also just not new computers that are going out with Windows 7. We have had a lot of inplace upgrades from both XP and Vista on older machines move to Windows 7

Update: I have just been informed by my staff that we did have one new computer still go out with Windows XP :)

Remember that the Beta will be time limited the same as Windows 7 and should not really be installed on your main computer; or with a previous version of Office still on the system.

It looks like Microsoft is taking the same approach to the testing this time around with Office 2010 that they did with Windows 7; so with luck we should get another polished quality product.
