If your in the market for an upgrade or a system replacement look no further. We supply both custom built desktop computers; and also high quality branded notebooks.
We try to match the right computer with your needs and in doing so often will ask you a lot of question on how you plan to use it and what software do you have. This helps us generate a profile of you so that we can construct you the perfect computer.
What does it all mean?
Now when comparing computer's there is a lot of numbers, sizes and strange names that are all meant to mean something. Let us explore some of them for you so that you can easily compare computer to computers.
CPU - This is the Central Processing Unit; and is essentially the brain of the computer. There are two main Brands of CPU (Intel and AMD) and there are also many different speeds and types. A CPU's Speed is measured in GHz (Gigahertz) and basically the higher the number the faster that they will go. As the speed of CPU's has increased it has become harder to make them smaller however; so over the past few years they have started simply increasing the number of processors on the single chip. So whilst a CPU used to only have 1 processor on them; you can now get them in both Duel Core (x2) and Quad Core (x4) and although they may have a slower Ghz Rating; when you have those extra Cores working in tandom the more powerful your computer will be.
As an analogy a CPU can be made by either Ford or Holden, and there are both V6 and V8 Models.
RAM - Random Access Memory. This is the other largest factor that will determine the speed of your computer. The RAM is the computers thinking space; the more RAM you have the more things that your computer can do at the same time. RAM is measured in GB or Gigabyte and comes in sizes of 1GB, 2GB and 4GB. There are limitation in how much RAM a computer can have; eg if you have a 32 bit version of Windows it can only address 3.5GB of RAM, so any extra RAM would be wasted. Although both Windows Vista and Windows 7 will operate on a low amount of RAM we recommend all new systems to have 4GB of RAM.
HDD - Hard Drive. This is the Storage Capacity of your computer or how many photos, documents and music you can cram into it before its full. The Hard Drive is measured in the same units as the RAM with entry level drives starting around the 320 Gigabytes and go all the way to 2 Terrabytes (2000 GB). A hard drive typically doesn't affect the speed of the computer although there is a new type of Hard Drive on the Market called Solid State Drives which will give a computer a significant speed increase. So how big is big? How much data do I consume?
Typical Pictures range from 0.1MB - 5MB in size each Typical Songs in MP3 Format - 3MB to 5MB in size each Typical Word or Excel Document - 0.5MB to 2MB in size each Typical 2 Hour Video in AVI Format - 750MB
So even an Entry Level 320GB (320,000MB) hard drive has plenty of storage space for thousands of Pictures, Songs, and Documents.
Video Card - The Video Card renders images for the screen and again there are two main manufactures in this space (nVidia and ATI). Dedicated Video Cards used to only be needed for High End 3D Gaming and for specific applications such as CAD; however both Windows Vista and Windows 7 now take advantage of your graphics card for displaying the desktop and thus should be included in any new computer (Onboard Graphics should only be used for basic setups). Video cards can cost from $100-$1000 each; and whilst you can get a pretty flash card up around the $1000 mark I generally recommend setting a limit of $400 as anything higher will drop in value very quickly.
Warranty - Your Computer Warranty is your best friend. Both desktop and notebook computers can have hardware faults. Our custom built PC's come with 2 years of RTB warranty. RTB (Return to Base) means that if say a hardware component fails if you bring it back to us we can replace the faulty part and get you back up and running. Because our desktops are made of high quality components we have a very low warranty return rate compared to other name branded pc's.
Notebook's have their own warranty issued by the manufacturer and typically only come with 1 year. We do recommend the notebooks that come with 2 years as repairing a notebook at 18 months old can be very expensive.
Warranty extensions are also available up to 5 years in total.
Software and Data are NOT covered under any warranties.
